Minecraft is the Best Game, Hands DOWN

Video games have become an integral part of our culture. Most people younger than forty remember going to the arcade, or sitting down and booting up the Nintendo in their living room. For many, these are their fondest childhood memories. Everyone has their favorite videogame. And because entertainment is so subjective, it seems impossible to really say which one is the best.

But I have done the impossible. I can say, with absolute surety, that I know for a fact what THE BEST video game ever created is. I know that probably some of you are going to disagree with me, but hear me out.

The best video game ever made is without a doubt, Minecraft.

This game is huge. It’s the most played game of all time, and that’s for good reason. It’s the perfect example of a sandbox game. It gives players the option to just mess around in creative mode, or play through a story mode in survival, with the endgame goal of beating the End Dragon!

That’s all well and good, but what’s even more impressive is just how many mini-games have spawned off of this monolith. Because Minecraft is coded using Java, it’s easy to make mods and adjust the game code. Many Minecraft players are familiar with servers like Hypixel and Manacube. These servers collect all types of minigames into one place and often have greater traffic than many other full games. It really shows just how Minecraft encourages creativity and inventiveness.

These servers are also an example of the usually awesome community surrounding the game. While every group has its oddball characters, by and large Minecraft has a surprisingly calm fanbase. The fanbase is also incredibly diverse, from elementary students to adults, Minecraft offers entertainment to all ages. Despite what it might seem, Minecraft can be so far from a simple child’s game. I’ll be honest, I’ve seen a better drama unfold in this game than more than a few movies I could mention.

It comes down to the fact that as far as I can tell, no other game offers any sort of competition. Sure, other games are awesome, but at the end of the day, Minecraft is the most versatile, creative, and longest-lasting game ever made. And don’t even get me started on the music.

I encourage you to give this game a try, if you haven’t already. And if you have, but you haven’t logged on in a while, boot up that old world. Your dog probably misses you, and it won’t hurt to take a look around for old time’s sake. You might just end up staying.

And as always my friends, choose joy.
